Hi !

I was one the student presented in the classroom when you were giving the talk . I asked a few question related to the missionary work , At the end of talk, I showed your a reading list from the Tainan Theological College and Seminary ( TTCS) . Just like you , I am also research on the missionary work in the late 19th Century .

Recently when I was reading entry http://atinyrevolution.com/2011/06/03/filling-the-void/ , The name Chi-Oang hit my mind . Could she be the one mentioned by this entry ?

芝苑 Ci-wang Iwal 年代：1872 – 1946.04.19 臺灣首位接受基督教的原住民，被稱為「臺灣原住民信仰之母」。出生於花蓮秀林，屬於泰雅族賽德克亞族的太魯閣支系。嫁給平地人而學會講日語，曾協助日軍勸降激烈反抗的太魯閣族。1924年受洗，1929年在宣教師孫雅各夫婦鼓勵下就讀淡水婦學，之後被派回花蓮傳道。她在家鄉附近展開逐家傳道，引導許多族人入信。日本政府不願西洋勢力進入山地，嚴格禁止原住民接觸基督教，為此許多信徒被警察毒打、監禁，但是信仰卻更堅定。芝苑本人則因有功於日本政府而未直接受迫害。花蓮縣秀林鄉富世村現有一所「姬望（舊稱芝苑）紀念教會」。王昭文撰鄭連明等編著，《臺灣基督長老教會百年史》，1965

And I am curious to know , have you heard of any records of a Female Protestant (?) Missionary named Lady Beggs came to Taiwan in late 19th or early 20th ? It is rumoured that she could speak German , and she went to Amis-Atayal area to spread gospel . That’s the story I seek to verify .

Was the Brockville anti-aging miracle a test to see if I’m keeping up with the blog? Why not save yourself time and just wire-tap me a-la Murdoch. Rupert, not Detective William. William, unlike Doug Ford, can recognize an important clue. Perhaps you’re just ‘monetising’ your blog in the entrepeneurial spirit of the Ford brothers.

Thanks for your note. I discovered Mr Schwartz’s site after I set this one up. As I noted before, I am both in his shadow (in terms of the funny) and in his camp (in terms of our respective interest in Orwell). I will post a link to Jonathan’s site.
